The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Schulich delivers one of the highest calibre engineering programs in the world. The department was founded in 1965 and is now home to 45 faculty members, 10 research chairs and approximately 400 graduate students and 550 undergraduates.
The department is instrumental in providing excellence in education and research in two of the University of Calgary's strategic priorities: Engineering Solutions for Health: Biomedical Engineering, and Energy Innovations for Today and Tomorrow.
The department is an integral component of the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy (ISEEE), which is mandated to focus a coordinated effort to research, develop and commercialize new energy technologies. The department is home to several advanced research centres and laboratories which support these objectives.
